Michal and his girlfriend were soon to be married but it all went wrong. What followed was a miserable breakup, a move to Birmingham and three nights sleeping rough.

Michal had never been homeless before. A series of events left him scrambling desperately for a solution.

The three day fall

Broken by the collapse of his relationship, Michal, aged 30, needed a fresh start. He left behind his job as a chef, his ex-fiancée and the flat they were renting together in London and headed for Birmingham.

He reached the city ready for change. What next?

Michal had no choice but to sleep rough. He was spiralling into a state of anxiety and depression. One day passed, then another, then another. Three days went by as he tried to work out what to do next.

On the third day, some of our clients told him about us.

Looking to eat and clean up, he arrived at our Drop-In Centre. Our project worker, Angelina, was soon on the case.

The three day rise

One day passed, then another, then another. Angelina and Michal worked together to get things moving. They visited accommodation, went to get legal advice and scheduled job interviews. Little by little, all the blocks fell into place.

Want to know something amazing? In just three days, Michal had a job and a place to stay. The foundations were in place for a stable future.

“I am shocked and positively surprised that within three days, I have a job and a place to stay,'' he told us. Angelina was thrilled too.

We supported Michal to find a full-time job at a restaurant in the city centre, temporary accommodation and, soon after, a medium-term place to stay at Tabor House until he was more settled. A legal advisor from one of our partners also worked with him to check his legal status in the UK.

He was determined to succeed, working hard to improve his circumstances and get back to the place he was before.

Now, he’s in great spirits. He’s motivated and loving his new job. And in the process of moving on, he’s written this awesome story of success.

Michal’s story is proof that a referral makes all the difference to people who are newly homeless. When we joined forces with him, we managed to stop his journey to prolonged homelessness. Will you donate to make sure we can provide speedy, impactful guidance to someone like Michal?
