Make a difference

It takes about 90-95 volunteers to run the drop-in service each week. Some of our regular volunteers may only be able to offer a couple of hours a week but when added together this amazing group of people contribute over 11,000 hours every year. Corporate and team volunteers contribute in the region of 5,000 hours each year. If all of this effort had to be paid at the Living Wage it would cost nearly £150,000 each year!!!

Meet a volunteer

Annette’s Story

I left work earlier this year but had worked in a busy people-centred environment previously.  I wanted to do something useful with my time and still have face-to-face contact.  I have always lived in Birmingham and have seen homelessness become more visible, so I wanted to do something to help.

As soon as I walked into SIFA Fireside, I knew it was a place I would love to volunteer.  I volunteer twice a week and love every minute!  Meeting the clients is the highlight of my day.  I enjoy catching up with their progress and seeing how they benefit from coming to SIFA Fireside.I left work earlier this year but had worked in a busy people-centred environment previously.  I wanted to do something useful with my time and still have face-to-face contact.  I have always lived in Birmingham and have seen homelessness become more visible, so I wanted to do something to help.

Ways to volunteer

Regular help

Whether it's cooking and cleaning, sorting the food and clothes stores or helping out with clients in the Drop In our volunteers keep us going each and every day. Why not join up and become a part of our care team.

Placements

Do you want to learn more? Speak to your university or college about a placement with us.  We can help you to develop vocational experience in the health and social care sector, or charity management sector.

Peers

Former clients are welcome back! As a former client why not come and share your experience of overcoming barriers and be a role model for our current clients.

Skills

We always value people with professional skills.  Whether it's legal, finance, IT, marketing or business, you can contribute to the way we work and support our clients.

Workplace teams

Gather your colleagues and come in for a day or two to assist on our Drop-in Service or possibly complete a one-off activity. It's team-building for you and essential support for our clients. Win - Win!

Fundraise

Much of what we do relies on gifts and donations. Why not help raise money for SIFA Fireside’s services for homeless and vulnerable adults? You can increase your impact by encouraging others to give too.
