David Coombes has worked in the areas of homelessness, substance misuse and alcohol addiction for over eight years.
He has extensive knowledge and insight into the underlying causes of homelessness, and supporting people with complex needs along with substantial experience of multi-agency partnerships.
For thirteen years, David trained and worked locally as a Registered Nurse across a variety of NHS clinical settings including vascular surgery, maxillofacial surgery and burns, and plastic surgery. David is also a trained holistic therapist in treatments such as aromatherapy, massage and reflexology.
David has also worked with a Mental Health community outreach team to support people with severe mental illness towards optimum recovery and independence. Prior to that he was a volunteer counsellor with the Youth Counselling Service ‘Open Door’, supporting young people with a variety of emotional and psychological issues.
David holds a deep interest in human behavior especially in mal-adapted behaviors relating to addiction, and has worked throughout his career to gain an insight and understanding into addiction in order to develop his practice and provide effective support.
He joined SIFA Fireside with the aim of using his extensive knowledge and experience to support some of the most vulnerable groups in society.
David now shares his passion and knowledge by delivering insightful and informative training while continuing his work with homeless adults here at SIFA Fireside.
David is originally from Birmingham, married and has three teenage children and a step-daughter. Alongside his interests in holistic therapies he also enjoys music and has an extensive record collection.
