Counselling
If you are seeking help with alcohol, life or relationship issues, or any problem that is damaging or hampering everyday activities or causing difficulties in your life as a whole, you may be helped by seeing one of our Diploma qualified counsellors. The counsellor may be able to help by providing professional and emotional support. Sessions are usually weekly, however they may be fortnightly depending on need and progress.

What can you expect?
Counselling is a tool to help you to understand yourself better and to facilitate personal growth. All our counsellors have had extensive training and experience particularly within person-centred therapy. Our sessions are time limited to 12 sessions although there is some flexibility depending upon personal circumstances. Before your first session you may find it useful to make some notes about what brings you to therapy; some good questions to ask yourself are why you have decided to come now and what you would like to be different.
Counselling takes place at our Lower Essex Street site and consists of one-to-one sessions with a counsellor lasting for 50 minutes. Where possible you will see the same counsellor throughout. This service is free of charge.
Accessing our counselling services
If you are already working with us, please speak to your SIFA Fireside keyworker. If you are not an existing service user, you will first need to register with either our alcohol or resettlement service. See How to Access Our Services for more details.
