Changing Lives team: Supporting Women

by Heather Duffy on 6 March 2017

We are aware that only a relatively small number of women utilise our Drop In center services, and there are a number of reasons for this. Our Changing Lives team now offers a weekly session just for women, providing a safe and encouraging environment within which they can openly discuss matters that are concerning them.

The women’s group runs every Thursday morning and offers an opportunity for the female clients to get together in a quiet relaxing space.
During these sessions the women are able to learn a breadth of new skills, take part in a variety of arts and crafts sessions, and benefit from presentations made by outside organisations. The group gives women the opportunity to discuss the issues they face in a safe and friendly environment, as well as to make new friends.
One of our regular attendees Kathy said: ” I love coming to the women’s group. It gives me some peace and I get to talk about my problems, but also get creative”.

The Changing Lives Team works with all our clients holistically, to provide skills and support to achieve lasting positive, changes. One example is the project working closely with Urban Coffee which supports some of our clients through placements and paid work opportunities. Building on this, Urban Coffee is currently investigating the sponsorship of food hygiene training and further fundraising opportunities to help fund our core services.
