We are pleased to launch a number of forthcoming events and training opportunities for January to June 2016. First, we’re asking people to support SIFA Fireside on National Random Acts of Kindness Day on 17th February by texting ‘KIND41 £3’ to 70070 to donate just £3 to buy a hot drink and a hot meal for someone who is homeless or in need.
If you can donate even a small amount, SIFA Fireside will use this to provide immediate and essential support to people in crisis, and it isn’t just a hot drink and meal as everyone who comes through our doors has the chance to speak with someone who can help with crisis support, housing, benefits and access to healthcare amongst other services. Often just being able to use the Drop In Centre and speak with staff and volunteers can make a big difference to how someone feels.
Do you enjoy a challenge? If yes, then why not take on this year’s TrekFest at Brecon Beacons National Park on 4th & 5th June 2016 in aid of SIFA Fireside.
The Brecon Beacons run through the centre of South Wales and are the training ground of the SAS. Not for the faint-hearted, the Beacons’ routes will provide you with a challenge and have something for everyone – whether you are new to trekking and want to complete your first 25km, or if you are a seasoned trekker wanting to tackle the extreme 100km (62 miles).
See our Fundraising Events and Campaigns for more opportunities and details.
We have also announced new dates for our Mental Health First Aid training, run in partnership with Birmingham & Solihull Mental Health Foundation Trust. This is an internationally recognised and certificated course which teaches people how to identify, understand and help someone with a mental health issue. In the same way as we learn physical First Aid, Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to recognise and respond to the warning signs of mental distress.
