We were all devastated on hearing the terrible news of the sudden death of our wonderful friend and supporter Rich McMahon, who died on 18th May 2015.
Rich had become part of our Drop In Centre over the last three years, giving his time freely to run music workshops with our clients, helping them to form a band and to perform, which was a huge boost to their confidence and skills. Rich also performed his wonderful music for us at several events and was helping us to organise a fundraising music event planned for autumn this year
Rich came here with his big voice, his even bigger heart and his wonderful sense of humour and gave us all encouragement, hope and laughter. He took the time to work with people with complex needs to play his part in helping them through difficult times and made a difference to the lives of many people here at SIFA Fireside.
Rich’s wife, Maggie, who came with him on several occasions to the Drop In, has set up Just Giving pages for two charities that were close to Rich’s heart: SIFA Fireside and Shine (a mental health charity in Ireland). Over £1600 has been raised for SIFA Fireside so far, and we are truly grateful. We will use this to support musical activities for our clients in the coming year, as well as to support the Drop In.
We are still going ahead with the fundraising night on 22nd September at The Jam House and it will be our tribute to Rich and to his music. We’re liaising with Maggie on this; and with Rich’s friend and fellow musician, Alex Vann, who is working with us on the event and with our clients to help them prepare a set to perform on the night.
Our hearts go out to Maggie and to Rich’s family, friends and fans. Rich McMahon, thank you. We will miss you, but we will not forget you. And the music will carry on in your name.
