Sister Sabina is in the shortlist for Institute of Fundraising’s ‘Volunteer Fundraiser of the Year Award’ at the National Fundraising Awards 2015

We couldn’t be more proud of one of our longest serving volunteers and supporters. Sister Sabina was one of the founders of ‘Fireside’ in 1983; since then she has fundraised every year for us. This has included her popular sponsored walks which one year raised a huge £43,000.

Thirty two years on, now in her 80s, Sister Sabina will be found in the ‘drop in’ or at her desk up to two days per week; every week. Since her hip operation last year she is back to full strength and out campaigning and visiting schools for us. She also still sends every school hand written thank you letter for sending harvest donations to us.

She remains at the heart of SIFA Fireside as a volunteer fundraiser and cherished friend to our clients, staff and volunteers. She has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds with her legendary ability to persuade! She tirelessly works to secure donations of money, food, toiletries, sleeping bags and clothes for homeless people. Last year alone Sister Sabina raised £35,000 and thousands more in food and clothing items. She has not only raised thousands of pounds but helped thousands of people in Birmingham and was awarded an MBE in 2009 in recognition. She is a star that shines in our city.
