This year SIFA Fireside is one of the Lord Mayor’s four charities; this means he is organising lots of fundraisers for us, including running the Birmingham half marathon! He also attends our events to add his support. On arrival at the drop in centre he chatted to Sister Sabina and our other volunteers, to clients, our partner organisations and our corporate representatives. He and Cath Gilliver our Chief Executive then said a few words about the work we are doing.
Cath thanked everyone for their attendance and continued support and explained the importance of a warm welcome for our clients as providing a warm safe space to have a hot shower and a hot meal we can work with homeless people at their own pace. We build trust and support for them to move forward with their lives. Accommodation advice, alcohol recovery support, training opportunities or volunteering in the drop in itself plus many many more activities and opportunities are on offer.
But we need to cover the basics first; both with clients and with our finances. To heat the drop in and provide the hot water for the (on average) 429 showers per month we need £6,078 to cover the winter months. So we are asking for our supporters to hold fundraisers for us, donate to us rather than use Christmas cards or simply text ‘warm23 £5’ to 70070. Hopefully we can reach this target!
