Our Health and Homeless Week ended on October 10th with a very well attended event here on World Homelessness Day which coincided with World Mental Health Day. Birmingham Solihull Mental Health Foundation Trust hosted a lunch at SIFA Fireside and Crisis, Shelter, Birmingham Mind, BITA Pathways and Stonham Housing all had stalls at the event.
Jo Davis, Manager of BSMHFT’s Homeless Nursing Teams launched their new Homelessness Multi Agency leaflet, followed by Cath Gilliver, SIFA Fireside’s CEO, who formally launched our 2013/14 Impact Report and our ‘Reintegration & Reconnection’ evaluation report. [‘Reintegration and Reconnection’ was a ground breaking project, funded by the Department of Communities & Local Government for SIFA Fireside’s work with homeless migrants from Central & Eastern Europe.]
BSMHFT also presented us with their incredible Harvest Festival food collection for SIFA Fireside
One of the attendees was a family member of a client who sadly died recently and the family donated £200 to SIFA Fireside in his memory.
BSMHFT have a strong working relationship with SIFA Fireside which includes:
- A weekly mental health triage clinic from BSMHFT’s Homeless Mental Health Team with close liaison in between clinics; this offers assessment, referral and reconnection to other Community Mental Health Teams as well as advice and support for SIFA Fireside staff. This provides an essential link between statutory and more informal services and is highly valued by both SIFA Fireside and BSMHFT.
- Partnership working with the pilot Street Triage Team (BSMHFT & West Midlands Police)
A big thank you to the Homeless Mental Health Team and to all the donors who made this such a special event!
