Trip to the House of Commons

by admin on 11 February 2014

Parliament 2We were very pleased to have the opportunity to take part in a trip to the Houses of Parliament before Christmas, jointly organised along with Crisis Skylight, with over 30 clients, staff and volunteers participating.  The highlights were a very informative guided tour which included the history and architecture as well as an explanation of how the two Houses operate, and a meeting with the Shadow Housing Minister, Emma Reynolds (MP for Wolverhampton North East) and Shabana Mahmood (MP for Ladywood).  Both gave us a considerable amount of their time and were keen to answer clients’ questions.

The impact of the trip, along with the democratic elections we hold for our SIFA Fireside Client Committee, has sparked a real interest for clients in being included on the Electoral Register, and we have made available voter registration forms and offered support with completing them; this all fitted nicely with National Voter Registration Day on February 5th.
