Christmas is a time to be spent with family and friends, giving to the people we love, and a chance to indulge in treats.
Unfortunately, for some people Christmas is just another day
of hardship. At SIFA Fireside, a Birmingham-based charity tackling homelessness and substance abuse, we help hundreds of individuals who will be without secure accommodation this Christmas. For such individuals, Christmas serves as a bitter reminder of the everyday struggle they face.
To capture the true meaning of Christmas this year, SIFA Fireside is asking for £5 donations in order to continue our vital work. We recognise the tough economic environment is creating a strain on many families this Christmas; however the extent of the government cuts means raising funds is more important than ever. Here are a few examples of what £5 could buy:
• Tea for 100 people every day for a week
• 2 slices of toast at breakfast for 80 people
• 15 pairs of socks for rough sleepers
• 3 pairs of underwear for rough sleepers
• 5 woolly hats for rough sleepers
• 16 tins of baked beans
• 13 tins of soup
