Case Study: Paul & Mary…

by admin on 24 September 2012

Paul and how we helped…

Paul, a 38 year old rough sleeper with alcohol and mental health problems, came to our ‘drop in’ in January.

We kept in touch through Paul’s two week admission to a psychiatric unit (as a result of his suicidal impulses) and put a support package in place for his discharge; this included resettlement and alcohol and mental health support.

Paul is now in accommodation, back in touch with his family, and has become involved with his local church. He attends regular appointments with his Alcohol Project Worker and is working hard to reduce his drinking.

Mary and how we helped…

Mary is a 60 year old retired teacher who first came to SIFA Fireside after a detox in 2005 but has returned after an escalation of her drinking resulting in an alcohol-related disability and her marriage break up.

Mary is attending weekly key working sessions focusing on relapse prevention and helping her to get involved in community activities.

She also comes to our weekly peer-led abstinence group and is working towards joining our service user volunteering programme.
